The history of Invicta watches begins in 1837 with the first affordable timepiece crafted by Swiss watchmaker, Raphael Picard. His thinking was that Swiss quality, durability and beauty ought to be available to everyone at an affordable price. His new brand was named for the Latin word “invincible” – Invicta.
The Invicta Watch Group is arguably the fastest growing watch manufacturer in the business. This being true, it is hard to believe that during the 1970s they almost stopped due to the craze in Quarts watches. However, building on their strong foundation of watch manufacturing, the brand was able to make a stronger comeback than some other inferior brands. After the sluggish sales period of the 1970s, the Invicta Watch Group continued to appeal to watch lovers who recognized value to be more than just price. Collectors began to see the ingenuity behind the Pro Diver and the beauty and elegance of the Angel and Elite lines. Some would even argue that these Invicta watches are better than many of the more expensively priced Swiss made brands.
Movado has always shown a remarkable dedication to fine watch making. The MOVADO philosophy is as valid today as it was back in 1881, when young watchmaker Achille Ditesheim founded the company that became Movado in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Ditesheim was determined to develop timepieces that would surpass all, and within a few years his watches were making history. Translated, the word Movado means "always in motion." and has proven to be a prophetic name for a company committed to design, innovation and time technology since 1881. With many patents for breakthrough ideas, over 200 international awards for creativity, watches in 20 museums worldwide, Movado has made some of the most famous timepieces ever created.
Defined by a single dot at 12 representing the sun at high noon, the Museum Watch dial is regarded as an icon of Modernism. It was designed by Bauhaus-influenced artist Nathan George Horwitt in 1947. When Horwitt’s dial was selected for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, NewYork, in 1960, it was the first watch ever awarded this distinction. The name “Museum Watch” derives from this recognition. Today, Movado watches are in prominent museums worldwide, and this legendary dial distinguishes an entire collection of singular timepieces.
